Thomas K Cox Jr.

December 29, 1933 — July 22, 2024

Thomas King Cox, 90, died Monday, July 22, at his home in Woodstock, MD. He is preceded by his parents Thomas Cox Sr. and Florence "Pinky" Cox, and by his beloved cat, Sam (I and II). He is survived by his cousins, Kara Chiles of Ashburn, VA, Laura Covey of Centreville, MD, and numerous other cousins across the United States.

"Tom" to his friends and "King" to his family, he was known for his service to the country, pursuit of his passions and the long-running and wide-ranging friendships he made through the Saab, Pontiac, and Plymouth communities. Tom served in the Military Police in the U.S. Army winning notice for his marksmanship, before being honorably discharged and beginning his career at the Department of the Treasury.

In retirement, Mr. Cox deepened his participation as a founding member of the Vintage Saab Racing Group community, collecting and racing cars. Over the years, he was known in the community for his generosity, humor, and knowledge. Among his family, Tom was known for unselfishly helping with any move, his love of sailing, skiing and leatherworking, his much-haled chili, and his short temper with technology. An inveterate grump, Tom was generous with his time and his tools. He will be missed.

Mr. Cox will be buried at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, MD, at 10am on Friday, August 16, 2024, followed by a celebration of life at The Grill at Harryman House. In lieu of flowers, please send spare parts and donations to: Saab Heritage Car Museum USA, 940 Dickson Drive, Sturgis, SD 57785.
