Thangavelu Kuppusamy

Dr. Thangavelu Kuppusamy, loving husband and father of four sons passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Dr. Kuppusamy was born on April 27, 1940 in Pondicherry, India to A.N. Thangavelu Mudaliar and Sivagami. He was the third child and eldest son of eight children. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from IIT in Kanpur in 1972. On July 9th 1962, he married Rajeswary and they raised four sons, Mohan, Gandhi, Tamil, and Ashok. Dr. Kuppusamy held a lifelong passion for teaching and research; He was a professor for 39 years, with 24 of those years at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA where the family moved in the late 1970s. He was devoted to his family and was a true role model for his sons and grandchildren. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He is survived by his wife, his four sons, four grandsons (Vignesh, Sakthi, Devan, Sachin), and three granddaughters (Sangavi, Aavni, Sofia). He is dearly missed. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at the MacNabb Funeral Home in Catonsville, MD at 11 o’clock a.m. A lunch reception will immediately follow at Terra Maria Community center located at 3112 Josephine Walk, Ellicott City, MD 21042.
