Sarah Elizabeth Wilson

Sarah Elizabeth Emrick Wilson, born August 30, 1939, was 82 years young when passed away on July 22, 2022, in Maryland where she lived with her loving daughter, Tasha Hill-Smith and her adoring son-in-law, Mark Vernon Smith and their five fur babies: Thunder, Gabbee, Anchor, Jewel, and Luna! Sarah loved to go shopping, since she knew her son-in-law, Mark Vernon would always take her to her favorite restaurant, the Cracker Barrel. Sarah was a devout Catholic, who served as the church organist for over 20-years where she was a member at St. Gerards Catholic Church in Jonesville, LA. She also served at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ferriday, LA whenever she was needed. In November 2022, Sarah had the pleasure of viewing the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC with her very own private tour guide! She was very excited and pleased to have seen this Cathedral before she passed from this earth. Sarah was blessed from a very young age with the natural gift of playing the piano and played the piano from the age of 4 years old. She took great pride as the church pianist for many years, prior to her leaving for college. She also was sought out in the community of Jonesville to play the piano for special occasions, weddings, funerals, and other events during her lifetime. Sarah graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1962 with her BA in Elementary Education. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life; my late father, Billy Ray Wilson, and has three children. Sarah was a beloved elementary school teacher who taught at several elementary schools to include Haughton Elementary School in Haughton, LA and Franklin Academy in Winnsboro, LA. She won an award for teacher of the year along with two other teachers in Louisiana, all three were honored to be invited to attend the Presidential Inauguration of Jimmy Carter in 1977 as his special guests. Sarah was a very talented young lady who made quite an impression in High School and College. Sarah was named the Head Cheerleader at Block High School in Jonesville, LA and enjoyed traveling with her cheer team to football games, as well as, competing with other cheerleaders throughout the Ark-La-Miss area. Sarah continued with this title throughout her college years as well. Sarah was not only well known for her sweet smile and cute legs, but she also served as the Captain of the Basketball team during her years at Block High School. Matter of fact, she maintained this honor of Captain, which carried over throughout her college years at Northeast Louisiana University. She was so embarrassed when her brother, Louie Emrick and his Air Force buddies would show up unexpectedly and cheer her on by calling her the nickname her brother Louie gave her: Sardina! (Because she was so tiny, yet very quick on the basketball court!) Preceded in death by her father, William Thomas Emrick and by her mother, Violet Marie Jernigan Emrick, loving husband Billy Ray Wilson, sister Helen and husband BC Wilson, sister Billie and husband Nathan Gallender, brother Louie Emrick, Brother Fred and wife Eva Emrick, and Granddaughter, Ashley Rae Hill Brown. Sarah’s surviving family support system includes, her devoted and forever faithful Daughter Tasha Elma Hill-Smith and her dance partner and son-in-law Mark Vernon Smith, in Laurel, MD, beloved nephew, David Fred Emrick, in Jonesville, LA, and longtime friend Sherry Watts Stafford and husband Bobby Stafford in Jonesville, LA. Surviving family Members; Daughter, Tamra Walters and husband Danny, Son, Mark Wilson and wife Dana, Brother, Bobby Emrick. Grandchildren; Lucian Hill, III and wife Jennifer, in Pearland, TX, Brandy Coss and husband Daniel in Derwood, MD. Tiffany Nobles and husband Spencer, in Winnsboro, LA, Taylor Searcy and husband JT in Winnsboro, LA, Alex Wilson and Aaron Wilson, both in Jackson, MS. Great-grandchildren; Reagan Hill, Luke Hill, Andrew Nobles, Eva Nobles, and John Daniel Searcy. Sarah loved her family, loved to travel, experience new foods, decorate for the holidays, and always dressed up, even on a rainy day! Sarah will be fondly remembered, loved, and missed for multiple reasons, to include her baking and cooking that everyone enjoyed every day of the week! There was always fresh backed cakes, pies, quiches, cookies, and full course meals in her house, all homemade with love! A VERY special thank you goes to Dr. David Barnard from LaSalle General Hospital for NEVER giving up on Sarah no matter what! And, to a VERY special nurse, Kari Brooks, who sincerely stood by my mother through her multiple trips to the hospital in the last year and provided emotional and compassionate support to the very end! Special Thanks to My Very Best Friends, Juan and Carla Melesi in Cummings, GA; without them, My Mother would not have lived as long as she did! And most importantly, I want to thank my husband, Mark Smith for all of his never-ending love and continuous support he has always shown for my mother and I. Mark truly is a gift sent to us from God! Thank you to everyone who has been supportive of my mother over the years; your wings will not be forgotten!
