Nolen L. Null

February 2, 1947 — January 9, 2022

On Sunday, January 9, 2022 Nolen L. Null, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 74. Nolen was born on February 2, 1947 in Macomb, IL to Lawrence and Clara (Vollmer) Null. After graduating from Northwestern High School in Sciota, IL he enlisted in the army. Following a tour in Vietnam, he relocated to Baltimore, MD where he met and married Treen (Funk) Null in 1970. They moved to Catonsville, MD where he worked as a model train salesman and they raised their two children. Nolen’s passion for trains, specifically the Burlington Northern Route (of which he was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge), was well known and a driving force in his lifelong career. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, as well as gardening, specifically when it came to hibiscus. He was active in his church, Salem Lutheran Church, and enjoyed spending summers at 5 Oaks Pool, both located in Catonsville. Even though he moved away from his family farm in Illinois when he was a young man, he continued to visit annually and kept in touch with many local neighbors and friends. Nolen was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Neal and Norman Null. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Treen and his children, Nicole (Null) Nash of Catonsville, her husband Ryan, and Nathaniel Null and his partner Maggie Siegel-Berele of Baltimore, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Charlie and Jack Nash of Catonsville. In addition to his immediate family, he will be missed by his brother Ned Null and wife Cathy, sisters Nedra Orr and Nyla Hughes, and sisters-in-law Linetta Null and Janice Null. He also leaves many nieces and nephews who adored him. A celebration of life is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Catonsville, MD. In leu of flowers, a donation can be made in Nolen’s memory to the Scholarship Fund at Salem Lutheran Church at 905 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, https://salem-catonsville.org/ or the Blandinsville-Hire Library at 130 South Main Street Post Office Box 50, Blandinsville, IL 61420.
