Joyce Phlegar Fava, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. C. Phlegar of Johnson City, Tennessee, wife of the late Colonel James A. Fava died July 19th 2020 at the age of 98. At the time of her death she was residing at Sunrise of Severna Park, in Severna Park, Maryland. She served as Secretary for the Science Hill High School in Johnson City for two years after graduating from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri in 1943. She married her husband, Colonel James A. Fava, USAF retired, on January 30, 1946. After living in Tennessee, Massachusetts, Missouri and Wyoming they moved to Severna Park in July of 1956. She became a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in November of 1956. She had been active in the Church serving as a Ruling Elder and twice as Deacon. She was also President of the Women’s Association, Circle Leader and Chairman of the Woods Bazaar. Along with her husband, Jim, she taught first grade Sunday School for ten years. She was most pleased when she was given an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She was active in Hilltoppers (a group of senior citizens) at its formation. She was a Past Regent of the Fort Severn Chapter, NSDAR and served on the County Board of the YWCA as well was local chairman of the Severna Park YWCA. She was President of the Mid-Atlantic Unit of the WBCCI. As part of the Meals on Wheels program she served for over 40 years. Beside her devotion to her church, and volunteer work, she also loved to play bridge. In 1973 she and her husband began making trips all over the world as well as the entire United States, Canada, and Mexico. Survivors include three sons, Dr.James a Fava, Jr. of Dominical, Costa Rica, Donald C. Fava of Timonium, MD and Gary L. Fava, Salem, Or., and seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Memorial Fund, Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, Severna Park, MD 21146
