Mr. Joseph Kropfeld was born Sept. 2, 1935, in northern New Jersey to parents Joseph and Bridget Kropfeld. Joseph was raised in Michigan and New York City. Joseph spent his adult life as a Baltimore City resident for over 60 years. Joseph “JJ” departed us on July 23rd. Prior, Joseph studied engineering at the University of Michigan and later studied real estate at Johns Hopkins University. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Joseph was an avid historian and sailor. He was part of the revitalization of Fell’s Point immediately following the road fight to save the neighborhood from the I95 expansion. Many days, Uncle Joe, or “JJ” to others, would be found sailing the harbor with is first mate Reggie the golden retriever. JJ often spent time reading in the local coffee shops such as the Daily Grind or Louie’s Bookstore. Joseph is survived by his brother, William Kropfeld of Machipongo, Virginia; his niece, Loraine; four nephews, John, Kevin, Sean, and Paul; and cousins Marie, Virginia, Kathleen, Michael, Kevin, Mal, Kathleen, Fran and Lenny. Joseph enjoyed spending time sailing with long time friends such as Mrs. Jeffie, Leon, Buck, and Joan, to name a few. He would love to hold conversations at the coffee shop with friends like Chip, Felipe, and Jeffery. A celebration of life will be held at Captain James Landing at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 11. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to American Legion Post 56, 21210 Bayside Rd., Cheriton, VA 23316. And remember, “Don’t Give Up the Ship”.
