Jonathan Kim Loyd

March 6, 1946 — July 1, 2022

Jonathan Kim Loyd, 76, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2022. Kim was born to Pearl, ne’ Terpintz, and Sedgwick Bryant Loyd on March 6, 1946, in Terre Haute, IN. Even as a young boy, Kim was known to tinker on anything mechanical, and throughout his life always had projects: from go carts to blacksmithing, motorcycles to model airplanes, and cars, many cars. Kim was a graduate of Wiley High School, in Terre Haute, IN. He went on to graduate from Purdue University with a degree in Industrial Economics, before marrying Susan Lynn Bowsher and moving to Danville, Illinois, to begin their life together. A sales position with heavy equipment component manufacturer Esco Corp brought them to Maryland, where they settled for the next 48 years, raising a family and retiring to the same house in Fallston, MD. He continued his career in sales of heavy equipment and fabrication services in the Baltimore area with Lutherville Supply, and later with Clark Machine Corp. Kim’s love of mechanical projects filled his garage and he was known to spend hours finessing a wayward engine to run again. He also loved fishing, sailing, and tending his grapevines. It was spending time sharing these passions with his friends and family, for which Kim will be so fondly remembered. Kim is survived by his wife, his three sons, Andrew, Douglas, and Jeffery; and his grandchildren, Harold, Edward, and Margot. A celebration of life is planned for close family later. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, aides, and staff of Gilchrist Hospice for their support though Kim’s end of life. Contributions in his memory can be made to Gilchrist, 11311 McCormick Rd., Ste. 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or online at gilchristcares.org/donation.
