James “Jim” Cooney Meyer, 85, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away January 14, 2021, after an extended illness. Mr. Meyer was born in Baltimore, MD to William E. Meyer and Johanna “Josie” (Cooney) Meyer. He was one of five children. Mr. Meyer married Margaret “Peggy” A. Meyer nee Malone. Mr. Meyer attended Calvert Hall High School, Class of 1953, where he played football. Mr. Meyer served 2 years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return stateside he worked in the banking industry until his retirement. He once provided a loan on a handshake and believed in serving the community he lived in. Mr. Meyer was an avid supporter of youth sports serving as the baseball commissioner of Elkridge Youth Baseball for 10 years as well as supporting the Lions Pride of Howard High. He loved watching his sons and grandsons play ball, watching the Baltimore Colts and held season tickets for over 30 years, enjoyed Orioles baseball, and the Baltimore Ravens. Mr. Meyer is survived by his beloved wife of over 58 years, Peggy, son Kenneth A. and wife, Merry Nicole of Charlotte, NC; daughter in law, Mary Zeliff of Glen Burnie, MD; son Michael F. and wife, Jennifer of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Brandon Meyer of Manchester, MD, Raymond Meyer of Baltimore, MD, Thomas Meyer of Manchester, MD, and Jackson Meyer of Ellicott City, MD; step-grandsons, Nicholas Mathews of Thurmont, MD and Zachary Mathews of Charlotte, NC. Additionally, he is survived by sisters in law, Marguerite Meyer; Katherine (Bob) Wancowicz; 2 nieces, Lisa Meyer and Suzanne (Meyer) Powell and nephew, Stephen Wancowicz. Mr. Meyer was predeceased by his son, Raymond M. Meyer; siblings William E. Meyer Jr., Jerome G. Meyer, Mary Ann Meyer, and Ralph A. Meyer; brother in law, J. Joseph Malone and niece Suzanne (Wancowicz) Crouch. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4795 Ilchester Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Father Mike Triplett, presiding. Interment will be immediately following at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, MD. Arrangements by MacNabb Funeral Home, P.A. Catonsville, MD. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Mr. Meyer to Catholic Charities.
