On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, Barbara Lee Jackson, loving wife and mother of two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, passed away at the age of 87. She happily joins her husband and love of over 64 years, John Payne Jackson, who passed away May 18, 2018. Barbara was born on September 18, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas to Dorothy and Robert Dixon. She received her B.S. in Mathematics from University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1954. She met her husband, John Payne Jackson, while attending school and married him on June 19, 1954. They lived in Key West, Florida for two years before settling in Silver Spring, Maryland. Barbara had a talent for sewing and a passion for crewel embroidery and needlework. She volunteered at the Episcopal Church and made alter linens for both the church and cathedral. Several crewel pieces were entered into state competitions where she won awards. Barbara loved reading about Celtic history and researching her family legacy, spending numerous hours with her husband at the National Archives, genealogical libraries and churches across the nation. She socialized in many social circles but enjoyed most spending time and creating memories with her family in Duck, North Carolina. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Olsen and her husband Ted; son John Payne Jackson, Jr. and his wife Marcella; granddaughter, Alyssa Olsen Fedder and her husband Eric; grandsons Chris Olsen, Brad Jackson and his wife Raven, and Jake Miller; great grandchildren, Robin and CJ. A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Martin’s in the Field, 375 Benfield Rd., Severna Park, MD at 11:00am. Reception following.
