It is with great sadness, the family of Arthur Paul “Archie” Staymates announces his passing on March 1, 2020 at his home in Catonsville. Born May 27, 1950 in Wilkinsburg, Pa., he was the elder of twins of the late Arthur K. and Maria (Hopf) Staymates. Archie graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1968 and Towson State College (now University) in 1973. After college, he went to work for Larry Beck Co. in Baltimore, Maryland, retiring in December, 2019. Because of Dad’s work, the family moved numerous times, finally settling in Hagerstown in 1961. That summer, Archie, and his twin Jimmy started playing baseball in the Federal Little League. Being a lefty, Archie was an outstanding first baseman. But, when the boys reached Junior High School, their attention turned to basketball. This was the sport for them! In high school, their ball handling and teamwork were unmatched. The crowds were in awe watching Archie run and dribble, passing the ball from his right hand behind his back to his left hand then pass it off to a teammate. He was flawless on the court. Archie is survived by his children, son Brian and daughter Lindsey, both from Baltimore, sisters, Linda Carpenter and husband Ken, and Michele “Mickey” Staymates, sister-in-law Sandy Staymates and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, twin brother Jimmy and nephew Joel Martin. Archie had a gentle spirit and wonderful laugh. He loved his children with all his heart and soul. He will be missed by all. We truly believe he was greeted into heaven by Jimmy with open arms and they are regaling all their exploits. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 12 noon – 2pm MacNabb Funeral Home, 301 Frederick Rd., Catonsville, Md. 21228.
