Peter Wight, a retired investment banker, died January 30, 2021, at Tall Oak, his beloved Baltimore County home. He was 85. Born May 27, 1935, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Helen Abell Conley and Daniel Ewing Wight, and husband to the late Jacqueline “Jacq” McClung Wight, his wife of 59 years. Mr. Wight grew up at Hopeland in Frederick, Maryland, where he and Jacq met as teenagers. He graduated from Lawrenceville School in 1954 and from Yale University in 1958, where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps as an aviator and played for the Navy’s Pensacola Goshawks football team. After moving to Baltimore in 1962 to join the investment firm of Alex Brown & Sons, he continued flying helicopters with the Maryland Air National Guard. He retired from Brown Advisory in 2010. When not at Tall Oak, Peter could often be found at the Elkridge Club. Known for his welcoming and fun-loving disposition, he also enjoyed sailing, especially when the risk of sand bars was high; the Nantucket surf in September; and convertibles year-round;. He was an avid backgammon player and instilled in his children a love of all games. Peter is survived by his sons, Peter Jr. (wife, Cacky) of Sparks, Maryland, and John (wife, Paula) of Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Katherine Weeden (husband, Matt) of Marshall, Virginia; his children’s extended families; and his brother, Edward Ira Wight (Nantucket, Massachusetts). Services and interment will be private.
